I haven’t known what day it is since sometime last week. One of the millions of times I woke up in the night last night I remembered that Notes of Plenty goes out on Wednesdays and perhaps Wednesday was soon and I hadn’t written it yet. I think the fact that I’ve lost track of time is probably a good sign.
I’m on a retreat in the Sacred Valley in Peru with Dr. Deborah Kern, a dear friend and mentor who I’ve known for over twenty years since I first stepped into her dance class in Austin my senior year of college.
When she mentioned it to me more than 20 months ago, I immediately invited myself, even though I had no idea what the retreat was about, what we’d be doing, or where we’d be going other than Machu Pichu. We’re not doing any plant medicine but the energy of the mountains and the way the Q’ero people relate to the world and life are rearranging me.
The synchronicities and messages that Life is sending me are stacking so fast I can barely keep up and I’m mostly in awe. And exhausted because there’s something about the altitude and the retreat center bed that keeps me kind of awake all night.
I’ll share more in an upcoming podcast episode and in the book I’m working on, but for now, I’ve got something for you that I made before I left:
Part 3 of the Inheritance series that I’ve been dripping out on Plenty is ready and it’s about how you can harness your emotional energy for financial success.
Most of us weren’t taught to feel our feelings in healthy ways. So we either avoid them or get flooded. Neither of these states gets us what we want. Our emotional energy doesn’t go away when we push it down, though. It morphs into numbing behavior like overspending. Or we find ourselves over-giving. Or trying to use money to soothe an ache it simply never can.
As a man named Santos who was translating for his father, a Shaman named Don Augustine, said during the Despacho ceremony they led us through about Ine, or Sacred Reciprocity:
“When you have an emotion you need to let it go and let it flow. You don’t need to hold it.”
