Why I’m no longer panicking about fitting into my wedding dress

photo3I’ll admit, I was skeptical.

When I first heard about tapping, or the Emotional Freedom Technique (EFT), I thought it was really weird.

Seriously, could tapping my hand on points on my body really be an effective strategy for overcoming pain, anxiety, or any of the other things it claimed to help?

As it turns out . . . YES! When I first tried it I was literally amazed by how much better I felt. As someone who’s had a history of anxiety, I’m a great candidate for tools that help calm the mind and central nervous system.

Now, I frequently turn to tapping when I find my monkey mind going crazy and I’m caught in a panic loop. And it helps calm me down 100% of the time.

But what I hadn’t really thought about until I read my friend Jessica Ortner’s brilliant new book, The Tapping Solution for Weight Loss & Body Confidence: A Woman’s Guide to Stressing Less, Weighing Less, and Loving More, is the connection between patterns of panic and body weight.

Jessica reminded me that the cocktail of stress hormones released when we panic (like, for example, about being able to fit into our wedding dress) actually prevents us from losing weight. So, the very thing that happens when we want our bodies to be a certain way when they aren’t (panic and anxiety) is what keeps us from losing weight (stress hormones like cortisol and insulin).

Woah, Nelly! I realized there was a HUGE piece of the weight loss puzzle that I’d been missing.

Reading Jessica’s book and going through the tapping meditations she’s written on my own has been transformative for the way I think about my body and weight loss. Instead of obsessing about the surface level stuff like how much I’m exercising or how much I’m eating, I can now use tapping to dig into some of the deeper emotional issues that lead to behavior.

(And what’s really cool is that doing the tapping makes eating healthy and exercising feel so much easier and natural. I’ve noticed a HUGE decrease in emotional eating and I’ve fallen in love with exercise in a way I didn’t know was even possible.)

Some of the things that have come up for me during tapping are a fear of shining and feeling overly responsible for others. Who knew those things were connected to my body stuff?

Ready to get REVEALED?

If you’re itching to get down to some of the deeper layers underneath your “stuff,” Jessica and I are both going to be speaking at REVEAL this Saturday, May 17th in New York City. REVEAL is the event where I feel safest and most supported to be my whole self and to peel back the layers.

Jessica will be sharing more about her revolutionary approach to weight loss and body confidence and I know we’ll be tapping with her live. Join us for this sisterhood soul party of truth, love, and freedom. Click HERE to get your ticket.

Want to do some tapping right now?

You’re in luck! Jessica and I sat down a couple of weeks ago in NYC to chat about her new book, her love of dancing, and how this whole tapping thing works. She even led me through a live tapping meditation that you can follow right along with.

  • So excited to see you both at Reveal this Saturday!! Much love and big hugs!

  • Love this. I just went through b school and still working on well everything. I am redoing my stuff because that is what needs to happen. I do feel overwhemed and anixous about can I do this and can I contribute and have a successful business. I am living into that i do have a successful business and I have heard of tapping but didnt know what it did. I am going to try this out. I think maybe get this book. I can definitely see where this can help me find sources of anxiety that I dont know why and help me get through it. I am also healing from a leaky gut. I have food allergies and am gluten intolerant and the whole response to people who eat differently or live with these isnt always received well and sometimes can be frustrating. My business is around coaching and other services. I am super excited but finding money for a new website and getting projects complete can seem impossible at times.. thanks for this.. you both rock.

  • Thank you SO much for this video. I’m totally ordering the book straight away. This provided massive value for me and I’ll be sharing it up. Hugs and stuff :) xoxo

  • That is hands down the best explanation I’ve heard of what tapping actually does to relieve anxiety or other feelings. Thank you for bringing it to us :)

  • I felt so relaxed just by watching you two. Never really given EFT a chance. Thanks for gently pushing me in that direction.

  • You guys are too cute together! This video made me smile from ear to ear.

  • I woukd like to try out this and buy Jessica book. I think so many of us are in need of a weightloss.

  • It’s interesting that tapping meditation can be so beneficial. That’s definitely something worth looking into for me. The fact that you can lose weight from it is definitely worth considering.
