Money Breakthroughs Guide: The best financial wisdom advice you’ll ever get for free! GET THE GUIDE!

Do you really need money? Or is it something else?

Have you ever had the experience of looking at your bank account, looking at your salary, or looking at your savings and thinking:

I need money!

Perhaps the numbers aren’t what you’d like them to be. Maybe there’s more month than money round about the 30th or 31st.

Whatever financial pickle you might have yourself in, there’s a key ingredient to the money puzzle that most people have never learned.

I personally figured this one out the hard way.

In this week’s episode of Financial Freedom Friday I’m going to let you in on this super important, but often overlooked key to financial well being.

Here’s a hint: It’s not about the money.

In the video below you’ll learn:

  • What money really is (and isn’t)
  • The simple mental shift that will have you feeling more abundant no matter what the amount in your bank account
  • How to start paying attention to your money in a way that feels good instead of like torture
  • The missing piece from your money management plan, without which you’ll have trouble getting traction
  • The crucial moment that catalyzed my journey to financial freedom and what you can learn from that moment too

Click the video below to get all the goods.

If you want more money you have to offer more value. (Tweet it!)

  • 1. I love that your video about money and value is 8:08 minutes long. Double 8’s! Good for the numerology. Did you plan that? 8=Power and Abundance.

    2. Yes, I’ve been thinking about this lately, but I haven’t put it into words, so thank you for that! Value. I will always be using that word in my mind when discussing future jobs with future employers coming up next month!

I’ve been increasing my self-worth over time in every other way than financially. That being the scariest for me, I’ve been back and forth with it, ignoring it as you have. I haven’t lived beyond my means in over 7 years, but I still have steep college loans to pay off and some smaller bills that I left in the past, but plan on taking care of. It will get done and I’m not going to Suze Orman shame myself for not completing their payment yet.

I am a nanny and am slowly building up my own business as a healer/clairvoyant/writer/blogger type of person. I will be looking for a new nanny job soon and have already decided to increase my value. To some, especially those who want an awesome nanny, I may be pricing myself out of the market, but I’m offering more value than just childminding. I’m a household manager who can take on all household needs, plus care for children, cooking nutritious and healthful meals and I often become a sort of muse to the working parent. I help them find more compassionate ways of communicating at work and I’m looking for parents who want to hire me, not only for the tasks I can do, but as an expert on raising children with self-worth. In exchange for that, I want to be valued more!

As for my creative life, the one I want to develop in order to eventually work for myself, I think that will happen in accord with me valuing myself at my day job. It takes a lot of courage to put yourself out there and I’m working on valuing myself into that!

Thanks for the video and thanks for listening. I look forward to reading your book.

    Another New England Kate

Hey other Kate in New England! I didn’t do the 8:08 on purpose – total fluke but I love that! Double 8’s :)

Because you’re offering so much value you’ll find the perfect family who will love what you offer and be thrilled to pay your price. I love it!

  • Um hello ding ding ding….Lightbulb moments here!
Loved this I am adding the value journal to my nightly gratitude journal routine tonite . Thanks Kate

  • Thavary

Thank you, thank you, thank you for this valuable video on self-worth!!! You really broke it down, Kate in a way that gets to the core truth of what the meaning of money is all about. Someone once told me that in order for others to believe in me, I needed to believe in myself first and foremost (this lady was a superstar when it came to sales, and I was fascinated by her consistent success to sell coupons door-to-door of all things). I didn’t fully grasp what she meant at the time. But, after watching your video, and meditating of the idea of “value” — I think I’m finally getting it. Thank you again, for this point of clarity.

    • Kate

You’re so welcome Thavary – I love the idea that in order for others to believe in you, you must believe in yourself. So true!

  • It feels so good to absorb this truth that it’s all about value, not money.

Thanks for the reminder Kate, great video.

  • WOW! and WOW! Exactly what I needed to hear today and I begin a serious journey in business and life, and self-value! Thanks Kate that was great!

  • Kimberly

Thank you! Great info! I’m starting my self-value journal tonight!

  • Deborah Chalk

Kate, what a fabulous and insightful video. – Also very stylishly produced! I am so looking forward to reading your book. You are knocking it out of the park!

  • Great video, Kate. I was JUST think today…”What if money didn’t exist, and we simply traded what we value for what we’d like to gain in return.” I kid you not, that exact thought when through my head as I was driving down the road today. You explained it so clearly, and I love the value journal. I do a gratitude journal, but never thought to bring in things I add to the mix. I do add awesomeness and I should recognize it. It’s so easy to forget the good stuff and get down over the mess-ups. Thank you for creating this. It is exactly what I needed to hear today.

  • Kate, your Financial Freedom Fridays are the best! I am learning so much from you. I am in debt after moving to a new town. I also have lost some of my hearing and having to learn to not be embarrassed to tell people to speak up. I need to value myself. I have added value to me by receiving my notary commission and I went back to college, all this after being laid off last year. I will be starting my journal tonight! Thank you so much!

  • I love this video, and the 2 before – at last I get it.
You are the first one that makes sense of it, without it being rocket science. It now makes practical sense, you’re sharing clear steps and I got it before the video was done :)
You are such a blessing, thank you for using your Value to us x

  • Great video!! I’m starting this tonight. Thanks.

  • I love when the Universe (or you as the messenger) is so timely with its messages! I have been going through deep healing work these last few months with realizing and owning my own worth, and I so clearly see how money is a part of all of it. You are such a light, Kate…thank you for making this warm and comforting and totally do-able. Big crazy love to you!! xo

  • Hi Kate,
You have definitely become more valuable to me! I love all your blogs and videos, and this one was no exception. Your “value” journal idea sounds like a good thing to encourage older children / teens to do as well… Teaching them to value themselves at a young age.
p.s. I introduced myself to you at the end of the Chicago XRC. It’s funny… I started to add… “Although I don’t expect you to remember me”, but that wouldn’t be valuing myself too much now, would it? :) Looking forward to seeing you next week in Salt Lake City!

  • Oh. my. God.

You don’t even understand the OMG that’s going on in my head right now.

I asked a question on my biz FB page last week, wanting my friends to share what they felt was in the way of their dream life. And everyone who answered said the same thing: finances.

I was kinda surprised, actually, but not after I thought about it. We all feel at one point or another that more money would be the answer.

I had already planned to focus this week’s blog post and newsletter on this topic, and to share your work and the work of a few other people with my readers.

But then I saw THIS and it’s like WOW. You totally tied it all together, and it relates directly to what I already tell my community: You need to change your attitude about yourself, and start making choices in line with your new attitude, in order to change anything else in your life.

Thank you, thank you, thank you for what you do!!!!

  • michal

    with love michal…

  • Hi Kate,

I love your videos! I had never really thought about money in that way before. I’m going to do both the daily value journal and make sure to celebrate what’s great with my friends instead of moan about what is wrong!

Heading over to do the quiz now. I’m looking forward to your book coming out in September.

    All the best :-)

    Prue

  • Well, that was such an eye-opener! Money doesn’t exist. I LOVE that! Because it really doesn’t. This profound mental shift makes me feel so confident about taking control of my finances and getting my debt under control. I’ve been putting off starting a journal, but I’m pretty sure this is the universe telling me I SHOULD! Thank you so much for what you’ve given to the world, Kate. Truly, an inspiration. Lots of love!

  • Jennifer Benner

HI KAte! Thanks for another great message. YOu are a great speaker and I value what you do.
A bit of feedback for your video, I thought some of your hand motions were a little distracting.

    Thanks again…
    Jen

  • Dear Kate,

I love the hand gestures! Your dancing hands remind me of “waving hands in the clouds” – a classic Tai Chi move. It’s a beautiful way to stir up good energy.

Thank you for infusing the topic of money with hope, love and joy!

    Linda

    • Jeanne B.

I agree–I’d rather see someone moving naturally, than standing there in “public speaker/news reporter pose”. The gestures help punctuate the concepts so they stick better.

  • Sue Dewar

I absolutely loved this video, and am going to start putting this into action today.
Thanks Kate for sharing this “AWESOME” mindset :)

  • B Laura Mazerolle

Thank you Kate, Have had issues with money, yes and I am much better now. However your cool video comes to reinforce it all and I will write down or had to my gratitude list what you suggest. GREAT ideas, I love it! Thaks again. B Laura

  • L

    Great Job Kate!

  • Jeanne B.

I’ve understood for a while that money isn’t real, but I didn’t understand until now what it really stands for. Value!

The part about keeping myself in debt equates to keeping myself small? Mind-blower! Small equals powerless. Powerless equals vulnerable. But small also equals overlooked/unseen/hidden… and being unnoticeable can feel like security/safety.

So maybe in a very twisted meandering way, the debt I’ve allowed myself to stay within is a way to feel safe by being so small you can’t see me or notice me. If I start playing bigger, you might see me, and then I might be in danger.

Yeah, there’s a whole other issue under there, LOL! But what a great, eye-opening start!

  • DP

I agree with so many others who have said, “what an eye-opener!” I allow my ego to tell me, “you’re not quite good enough, you’re not quite intelligent enough, you’re not quite capable enough…” and the fear takes over, and I go and hide rather than face the world, or my bank account. I really need to reevaluate my life and how I can add more value on all fronts. I know I will succeed. Thank you Kate! This is a great start for me. Can’t wait to read your book.

  • Love this! I am so happy to have discovered you Kate! I am now looking at my bills differently and the value for value concept is brilliant! I have committed this year to be wise with my money and work on eliminating our mortgage and living more simply. You are really helping me get there!

  • Amazing content. I realized that I have a lot of value, but I don’t give enough away. And if I value myself and my message, thank I must give more to others.

    Thank you, Kate!

  • Janice

I have tried over and over to get try the quiz but it does not let me in. It takes my name but not my email.

  • Connie

Kate, I love your fun, light-hearted approach to a subject that can be so serious sometimes. I am going to start that Value Journal tonight. Thanks to your book, I have already started looking at my money differently, and now I have another tool. Many thanks!!

  • Some folks know the price of everything, but know the value of nothing… Cheers.

  • Linda Lysdal

DON’T change the way you move your hands, your hands have a unique expression :)) I love your work, thank you.
